The largest amount of oil consumption is for transportation The next largest amount of oil consumption is industrial, which means plastic products, fertilizers, and pesticides, synthetic clothing, etc... the list goes on!
If you don't think our species is in any danger due to our oil addiction continue living as you currently are- consuming all the wonderful products that you couldn't live without.
Have a great day :)

I Heart Oil is an attempt to combat our oil addiction. Yes. Addiction. We human beings consume oil like junkies shoot smack and alcoholics need booze. Oil is all pervasive in our daily lives.
America is the worst offender on the planet. The BP Oil Spill is just one accident in our own backyard that makes us hold up a mirror. The real problem is our daily lives and how much oil we consume.
While gathering to hold hands on the beaches of the world is a beautiful and touching experience- if half of the people drive to get to the beach and a quarter of the people go buy plastic water / soda bottles afterwards- we haven’t really done anything worthwhile to help save the planet. This is cynical, but these are horrifying times we are living in and their is no time for blind optimisim.
Feels a pang of guilt for every disposable plastic item they purchase and discard We haven’t learned our lesson.
Until every citizen drives when they could walk, bike, or take public transit- we haven’t learned our lesson.
Until corporations care (if that's possible) about how they operate enough to put the environment ahead of their profits- we haven’t learned our lesson.
Until our governments give a damn and implement better systems that reduce and limit our oil consumption and control irresponsible corporations- we haven’t learned our lesson.
